“The Nokia 3 (2018) is expected to come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and 18:9 display”
Just yesterday, HMD Global sent out media invites for a grand launch event in Russia, to be held on May 29th. With the entire management including the CEO, CMO, and CPO in attendance, the license holding company of Nokia brand is expected to launch the 2018 variants of Nokia 2 (first impressions), Nokia 3 (unboxing) and Nokia 5 (review) at the event. Now, ahead of the official announcement, a leaked image of the alleged Nokia 3 (2018) has popped up on the internet.
In the newly leaked image, the Nokia 3 (2018) can be seen flaunting a completely new design from its predecessor. We can see the company’s signature elongated camera module of the handset in the latest leak. However, what caught our attention is the presence of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner just below the camera module. Notably, last year’s Nokia 3 was missing a fingerprint scanner. Additionally, the presence of the fingerprint scanner on the rear panel hints at a possible 18:9 display on the front. However, this is mere speculation at this point.
As expected, we can see the Android One branding as well, suggesting that the smartphone will come with the stock iteration of the Android operating system out of the box. This is in-line with Nokia’s announcement at the MWC this year that all smartphones from the brand will now be launched with Android One.
To recap on the last generation Nokia 3, the smartphone ships with a 5-inch HD display. The performance of the handset is driven by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor. The chipset is backed by 2 GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage, with support for microSD card. As for the imaging, the smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash. For selfies and video calling, the Nokia 3 features an 8-megapixel sensor on the front. There is a 2,650mAh battery under the hood to keep the lights on.
As of now, nothing is known about the upcoming Nokia 3 (2018), including this moniker itself, and it’s not even confirmed whether the handset will be launched at the May 29th event. We will bring you more details as and when they emerge, so stay tuned.
